BIST 100 index rises 366.80 points from previous close, USD/TRY stands below 5.50

Turkey's benchmark stock index went up 0.40 percent to close at 92,053.84 points on Monday.

Starting the first business day of the week at 90,825.39 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 366.80 points from the previous close.

Peaking at 92,028.83 points, the BIST 100's daily low was 90,388.37 points during the day -- 42 stocks on the index rose, 47 fell, and 11 were flat compared to the previous close.

The benchmark index posted a trade volume of 4.77 billion Turkish liras ($864 million) on Monday, as its market value reached 597.2 billion Turkish liras ($110 billion).

The country's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and private lenders Garanti Bankasi and Akbank saw the highest daily trading volumes.

By market capitalization, the leading companies on the BIST 100 were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($6.98 billion), Garanti Bankasi ($6.32 billion), and Akbank ($5.73 billion).

Stocks of energy firm Odas Elektrik (ODAS) were the top gainers -- up 19.73 percent -- and shares of Ihlas Holding (IHLAS) did the worst, losing 6.25 percent.

By market close, the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.4950, compared with last week's close of 5.4840.

The euro/lira rate was 6.2960 at Monday's close, versus 6.3190 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.0760 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.0340 at Friday's close.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,296.00 at the daily close, up from $1,292.50 at the previous close.

After hovering between $59.27 and $61.03 during the day, a barrel of Brent oil sold for $60.27 as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Monday.
