Fidan hails Singapore ties on first Asia-Pacific tour stop

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said he held comprehensive talks with Singapore's leadership on advancing bilateral cooperation in defence, trade and digital transformation, as he opened a tour of the Asia-Pacific region aimed at bolstering Ankara's strategic partnerships.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and other senior officials on Tuesday to discuss deepening ties across defence, economic and security sectors, marking the opening leg of a multi-nation Asia-Pacific tour. "In our meetings with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Interior Minister Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam, we assessed result-oriented steps to further advance our cooperation across a wide range of areas, particularly economy, trade, investment, defence industry, security, digital transformation and connectivity," Fidan said on social media platform X.
Strategic vision and regional security
The talks also addressed regional and global developments — including the situation in the Middle East and broader Asia-Pacific dynamics — with participants underlining the importance of resolving ongoing crises through dialogue and diplomacy. Speaking at an event organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, Fidan shared Ankara's foreign policy vision and emphasised the guiding role of diplomacy amid mounting global uncertainties. "We will continue to further develop our bilateral relations and close cooperation on international platforms with Singapore, a country we regard as strategically important in its region and beyond," he added.
