Fuat Oktay (4th R), Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT), and his accompanying parliamentary delegation meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi (L) in Amman, Jordan, on April 27, 2026.

Fuat Oktay, chairman of the Turkish parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, met Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Amman to discuss regional crises including Palestine, the Iran war, Israeli attacks on Lebanon, and Syria. They also addressed economic ties, investment, and transportation projects to connect the two countries.

Fuat Oktay, chairman of the Turkish parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, held talks with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Amman on Monday, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation. In a post on Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Oktay said the meeting covered regional issues extensively, including developments in Palestine, the war in Iran, Israel’s attacks on Lebanon, and the situation in Syria. The discussions also addressed efforts to improve economic relations between Türkiye and Jordan and boost bilateral investments.

Transportation and parliamentary diplomacy

Oktay emphasized that both sides share a common view on the importance of swiftly implementing concrete projects, particularly transportation investments that would connect the two countries. Such links would benefit both nations as well as regional stability and prosperity. The two sides also reaffirmed their determination to strengthen ties in the field of parliamentary diplomacy, which has become an increasingly important channel for Türkiye-Jordan cooperation.

Strategic context

The meeting comes amid heightened regional tensions following the US-Israeli war on Iran, which began Feb. 28, and ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon and Gaza. Türkiye and Jordan, both key US allies in the region, have coordinated closely on humanitarian aid to Gaza and Lebanon. Amman and Ankara also share concerns about Iranian influence in Syria and Iraq. Transportation projects discussed could complement the Development Road initiative linking Basra to Türkiye, with Jordan potentially serving as a gateway to the Red Sea and beyond.
