Türkiye, Brazil seek stronger trade and defense ties in call
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (R) and his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva reviewed Türkiye-Brazil relations and international developments in a phone conversation Monday. Erdogan stressed that greater cooperation in investment, trade and the defense industry could create mutual economic gains, while both countries’ diplomatic approaches to regional and global crises could contribute to wider peace efforts.

Türkiye and Brazil discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasizing the potential for expanded cooperation in trade, investment and the defense industry during a phone call with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday.

Erdogan highlights economic cooperation

According to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, Erdogan welcomed the steady progress in relations with Brazil, noting that the partnership has developed on foundations established around two decades ago.

He said closer economic ties across several sectors could provide tangible benefits for both countries, particularly as global economies face increasing protectionist pressures. Erdogan also suggested that Türkiye and Brazil could develop a broader economic cooperation model focused on improving prosperity for their populations.

Defense industry also on agenda

The Turkish president identified defense industry cooperation alongside trade and investment as an area with potential for further development. The emphasis reflects Ankara’s broader efforts to expand international economic and industrial partnerships while strengthening Türkiye’s role in global markets.

Erdogan also pointed to the shared importance of Türkiye and Brazil pursuing approaches centered on peace when addressing international and regional challenges.

Türkiye-Brazil ties gain wider significance

The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, with their partnership expanding into political, economic and international affairs. Monday’s conversation placed bilateral cooperation alongside wider regional and global developments, according to the Turkish Communications Directorate.

Erdogan said the peace-oriented positions adopted by Türkiye and Brazil on international issues could make a contribution to global peace, underscoring Ankara’s interest in closer coordination with Brazil on issues extending beyond bilateral relations.
