File PhotoPresident Recep Tayyip Erdogan has granted visa exemptions to holders of Syrian diplomatic passports for tourist visits of up to 90 days and transit travel through Türkiye, according to a presidential decision published Friday in the Official Gazette under Article 18 of Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the decision on August 27 to grant visa exemptions to Syrian nationals holding diplomatic passports, according to the Official Gazette. The decree was published on Friday and took effect immediately.
Tourist visits
The exemption covers tourist visits of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Diplomatic passport holders from Syria will no longer require entry permits for short-term stays in Türkiye.
Transit travel
The visa waiver also extends to transit travel through Turkish territory en route to third destinations. Syrian diplomatic passport holders may now pass through Türkiye without obtaining transit visas.
Legal basis
The decision was issued under Article 18 of Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection. The legislation provides the presidential authority to grant visa exemptions to foreign nationals traveling on official documents.
