Türkiye-Syria trade reaches $3.75B in 2025

Trade volume surges 42%

Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat announced on Thursday that bilateral trade between Türkiye and Syria reached $3.75 billion in 2025, representing a 42% year-on-year increase, as he addressed a business forum in Aleppo alongside officials and investors. Bolat stated that the two countries achieved positive progress following three meetings with Syrian ministers over the past month. The minister noted that Ankara remains committed to expanding commercial ties with Damascus during the current transitional period.

First Aleppo visit in 22 years

The minister noted that he returned to Aleppo after more than 22 years, recalling his last visit in December 2004 with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He emphasized that a despotic regime fell on December 8, 2024, allowing the new Syria to continue its path as an independent state. Bolat attended the business meeting alongside Turkish and Syrian officials, lawmakers and investors to discuss long-term economic cooperation.

Reconstruction despite pressures

The Turkish government works under instructions from Erdogan to maximize its contribution to Syria's reconstruction and economic stability, Bolat added. He noted that Syria continues to rebuild its state structure across all sectors — despite Western embargoes and Israeli military pressure over the past 20 months. The trade minister reaffirmed Ankara's commitment to supporting Damascus as it restores institutional capacity.

The Syrian regime collapsed on December 8, 2024, ending decades of isolation and opening new avenues for economic cooperation with neighboring Türkiye. Thursday's business forum in Aleppo marked the latest high-level engagement between the two governments as they seek to normalize relations. Bilateral trade had previously suffered significant declines during the years of conflict and international sanctions.
