Iran warns 'response is ahead' after Israeli strike on Beirut

Iran's top security official Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr warned on Sunday that a response is forthcoming following an Israeli attack on Beirut, saying violations of Tehran's "red lines" would not be tolerated while US President Donald Trump criticized the strike as ill-timed amid nearing peace talks.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr warned on Sunday that Tehran would not tolerate violations of its "red lines" following Israeli air strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs. "A response is ahead," Zolghadr said in comments carried by Press TV, adding that "unity of fronts has created security chain in defense of the region." He stressed that "Lebanon is our life, and violating the Islamic Republic's red lines will not be tolerated."
US criticizes attack amid fragile ceasefire
Israeli warplanes targeted Beirut's southern suburb early Sunday, killing at least three people and wounding 15 others despite an ongoing ceasefire mediated by Pakistan since April. US President Donald Trump publicly criticized the attack, stating it "should not have happened" as Washington and Tehran were nearing a peace agreement scheduled for signing on Sunday.
The war between the US, Israel and Iran began on February 28, with Tehran demanding that any settlement include halting hostilities on all fronts including Lebanon. Iran has called for a comprehensive ceasefire covering Gaza and Lebanon as part of any understandings with Washington to end the conflict currently under Pakistani mediation.
Tehran denies western Iran flight suspensions
The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported earlier that all flights to and from airports in western Iran had been suspended until further notice, citing unspecified "current conditions." Civil Aviation Organization spokesman Majid Akhavan later dismissed those reports as "baseless," telling Mehr news agency that no new Notice to Airmen had been issued ordering airspace closures or traffic suspensions.
