Israeli tank commander killed in Lebanon, death toll at 28

The Israeli military said on Thursday that a tank commander was killed in southern Lebanon when an anti-tank missile struck his vehicle, bringing the death toll to 28 since the war with Iran began in late February as Washington mediated renewed ceasefire talks between Jerusalem and Beirut.
Israeli military announced Thursday that a tank commander from the 75th Battalion, 7th Armored Brigade died in southern Lebanon after an anti-tank missile struck his vehicle, marking the fourth fatality in a week along the tense frontier. The soldier was killed instantly when the projectile hit his tank, Israeli Channel 12 reported, citing military sources.
Military death toll rises to 28
The death brought to 28 the number of Israeli military personnel killed since the start of the war against Iran in late February and the subsequent campaign in Lebanon in early March, according to military figures. Another 1,243 soldiers have been wounded in the operations, the military stated.
Israel and Lebanon renew ceasefire terms
The fatality came one day after Lebanon and Israel agreed to renew their fragile ceasefire and establish "pilot zones" under exclusive Lebanese army control, with all non-state actors excluded from the territory. The agreement was announced in a joint statement following the fourth round of US-mediated talks at the State Department.
The US-sponsored negotiations followed weeks of near-daily Israeli strikes on Lebanon that have killed nearly 3,500 people since March 2. The truce originally took effect on April 17 and was extended until early July, though violations have persisted along the border.
