Trump says US will help with Strait of Hormuz traffic after Iran ceasefire

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the US will help with traffic buildup in the Strait of Hormuz following the newly agreed two-week ceasefire with Iran. "There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made. Iran can start the reconstruction process," he said on Truth Social.
The US will be helping with the traffic buildup in the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump said Wednesday, following the newly agreed two-week ceasefire with Iran. "There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made. Iran can start the reconstruction process," he said on his Truth Social platform.
Ceasefire terms
Trump announced Tuesday that he agreed "to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks," contingent on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz "completely, immediately, and safely." The two-week pause is intended to allow both sides to finalize a comprehensive agreement, with talks set to begin in Islamabad on Friday.
Strait reopening
The Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed since early March, disrupting roughly 20 million barrels of daily oil traffic. Iran had restricted movement through the strategic waterway in retaliation for US-Israeli strikes that began Feb. 28. The reopening of the strait is expected to ease global energy prices, which had surged above $115 per barrel.

Reconstruction phase
Trump's mention of reconstruction suggests a potential post-war framework for Iran. The US and Israel have conducted strikes on Iranian military, energy and industrial infrastructure since Feb. 28, causing significant damage. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's office said Israel supports the ceasefire but noted it "does not include Lebanon," where Israeli ground operations continue.
