Almost 1,000 PKK, KCK members have quit, turned themselves in, since 2013, local authority says
According an online statement published by the Şırnak provincial governorate, ten terrorists surrendered to security forces in Şırnak on Tuesday.
This brings the total number of terrorists who surrendered between March 21, 2013 and October 26, 2015 in Şırnak to 969, the statement said.
The Turkish government launched a reconciliation process in late 2012 to end the 31-year-long conflict with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), in which 40,000 people have been killed, mostly in southeastern Turkey.
After more than two years of truce, the PKK broke the ceasefire and resumed its terrorist activities this summer.
Security forces also launched wide range anti-PKK operations inside Turkey and northern Iraq, and demolished most of the storage depots, barracks, caves, and shelters used by the militants.
Many mountainous areas used as PKK strongholds have been purged in military operations backed by airstrikes since July 22 this year.
During this period more than 2,000 militants have reportedly been killed and hundreds more have surrendered to Turkish authorities, while hundreds security officers also were martyred in the operations.
