Ankara has pledged to continue backing Syria and other regional states pursuing peaceful policies in the face of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s "destabilising activities." Communications Director Burhanettin Duran dismissed Netanyahu’s threats toward Türkiye as reflections of his growing international isolation and domestic political fears, vowing that Ankara’s prudent foreign policy would thwart such schemes.
Türkiye will maintain its solidarity with Syria and all regional actors committed to peaceful approaches in countering what it describes as the destabilising actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran declared on Thursday. Responding to questions about Netanyahu’s recent remarks targeting Ankara, Duran characterised the Israeli leader’s threats and falsehoods as symptoms of his deepening international isolation and political anxieties.
Netanyahu’s rhetoric and regional response
Duran argued that Netanyahu’s attempts to fabricate threats and enemies no longer resonate with the international community, which has increasingly reached a consensus on the nature of Israel’s policies. He noted that reactions from the US, the UK, and broader global circles are intensifying, suggesting that Netanyahu has turned to hostility toward Türkiye as a political lifeline ahead of upcoming elections. "He sees hostility toward Türkiye as a political lifeline," Duran stated, adding that the Israeli premier is fuelling regional tensions in competition with more radical factions within his own political landscape.
Israel’s image and diplomatic isolation
The communications director contended that Netanyahu’s aggressive posture—from Gaza to Syria and Lebanon, coupled with tolerated settler violence and extremist cabinet rhetoric—has reduced Israel’s standing to one of its lowest points in history. He accused Netanyahu and his associates of attempting to deflect attention from their own policies by targeting regional countries, particularly Türkiye. "His attempt to blame Türkiye after attacking Syria is the clearest example of this," Duran remarked, insisting that such accusations yield limited results as more people globally understand and reject Israel’s current trajectory.
Türkiye’s principled stance
Emphasising Türkiye’s commitment to peace and reconciliation, Duran reiterated that Ankara’s primary concern remains ending bloodshed and suffering in the region, with Gaza and the Palestinian cause holding vital importance. He noted that even Israeli opposition figures have described Netanyahu’s anti-Türkiye rhetoric as "irresponsible, extreme, and foolish," reflecting growing concern within Israeli society. Duran described Türkiye as a NATO ally with deep-rooted state traditions, capable of safeguarding its security while pursuing a prudent and peaceful foreign policy. "No one can disturb the peace of our nation and our friends. Türkiye will never allow that," he affirmed.
