Officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 11:10 p.m. local time (2110 GMT) and discovered multiple victims with fatal injuries. Eight men and three women were pronounced dead at the scene, while another man succumbed to his wounds in hospital, eNews Channel Africa reported.
Manhunt for suspects
Authorities said more than 10 heavily armed suspects, allegedly transported in a white Toyota Quantum, targeted several locations within the settlement before escaping. No arrests have been made as detectives continue to investigate the incident.
Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers, who remain at large following the late-night assault on the informal settlement.
