Erdogan, Tokayev discuss bilateral ties, regional issues in phone call

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed bilateral relations and regional developments during a phone call on Thursday, according to Türkiye's Communications Directorate. Erdogan congratulated Tokayev on the Kurultai elections held on Aug. 23, saying the high voter turnout indicated strong public support for the reform process underway in Kazakhstan. The Turkish leader emphasized that Ankara views Astana's political stability as a key factor in advancing mutual interests across Central Asia, according to the statement. Erdogan also said Ankara would continue its efforts to further develop bilateral relations with Kazakhstan in the coming period, emphasizing the strategic value of the partnership.

The leaders also reviewed broader regional issues affecting Central Asia and the wider neighborhood, with Erdogan stating that Türkiye would continue efforts to enhance bilateral ties in the coming period. Kazakhstan and Türkiye maintain close ties through the Organization of Turkic States, with both nations seeking to expand trade and energy cooperation alongside political coordination.
