Manchester Airport Group (MAG), the largest UK airport operator, announced on Thursday that a cyberattack had exposed data from approximately 8.7 million customers across three hubs. The incident affected Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports, according to a company statement.
Booking records targeted
The breach affected car park, lounge, Fast Track and WiFi records at the three locations. A spokesperson said: "A quantity of customer data has been obtained that relates to car park, lounge and Fast Track bookings and in-airport WIFI sign-ups at Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands airports."
Stolen data includes email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registrations and postcodes. MAG noted that bank details were not accessed.
Operations continue
The operator emphasized that payment data remained secure and operations were unaffected, adding that authorities have been informed. MAG has not disclosed the attack origin while authorities continue assessing the scope of unauthorized access.
