Kazakh president dismisses government after legislative vote

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Friday signed a decree dismissing the government following Sunday's legislative election, the first held under the country's new unicameral system, according to the presidential press service.

Cabinet reshuffle

The presidential press service published the decree following the weekend ballot. The document mandates that the outgoing Cabinet continue performing its duties until a new government receives approval from the Kurultai.

Parliamentary changes

Sunday's election marked the inaugural vote for the 145-member Kurultai, which replaced the former bicameral legislature under the new constitution adopted earlier this year. The constitutional overhaul abolished the upper chamber and consolidated legislative power in the single-house parliament.
