Senior Iranian foreign policy official seriously wounded in US-Israeli strike

Kamal Kharrazi, head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, was injured in an attack on his Tehran residence that killed his wife, according to local media.
A senior Iranian foreign policy official was seriously wounded in a US-Israeli airstrike targeting his home in Tehran, local media reported Wednesday. Kamal Kharrazi, who heads Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations and previously served as foreign minister, sustained severe injuries in the attack and was transported to a hospital. His wife was killed in the strike.
Kharrazi was key adviser to Khamenei
Kharrazi had been a senior adviser to the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and continued in that role after the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, opted to retain his father’s officials without changes. The strike marks a significant escalation in the targeting of senior Iranian political figures amid the ongoing conflict.
Hostilities continue into second month
The US and Israel have maintained an air offensive against Iran since Feb. 28, with Iranian authorities reporting more than 1,340 fatalities, including the death of the former supreme leader. Tehran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and widespread disruptions to global markets and aviation.
