Türkiye eyes deeper trade ties, backs Aleppo economic revival

Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat on Friday emphasized Ankara’s commitment to deepening economic ties with Damascus during a visit to Aleppo’s Shaykh Najjar Industrial City, where he surveyed production facilities and discussed reconstruction opportunities with local industrialists, according to a ministry statement.

Industrial Zone Assessment

Bolat received briefings on manufacturing activities and commercial infrastructure during his tour of the industrial complex, underscoring the zone’s central role in Syria’s economic recovery. He told business representatives that restoring production lines and expanding employment remain essential to reviving the war-torn city’s commercial vitality.

Economic Cooperation

The minister highlighted measures to boost production, investment and exports, noting that stronger bilateral trade relations would generate prosperity for both populations. "While strengthening Türkiye-Syria economic and commercial relations, we are developing cooperation opportunities that will contribute to Aleppo’s reconstruction and economic development," Bolat said, stressing the importance of revitalizing northern Syria’s economic infrastructure.

Following the industrial zone tour, Bolat attended a roundtable with Turkish and Syrian businesspeople focused on trade mechanisms and infrastructure development. He noted that ties between Türkiye and Aleppo extend beyond commerce, citing nearly a millennium of shared culture and neighborly relations in the region.
