F1's governing body approves 23-race calendar, new season to start March 21 in Australia

The governing body of Formula 1 on Wednesday approved its 23-race calendar for next year.

The FIA said the new season would kick off in Australia on March 21 and finish with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Dec. 5.

It said in a statement that Saudi Arabia would host its first-ever F1 race in the coastal city of Jeddah on Nov. 28 and that the Turkish Grand Prix would not be on the calendar.

F1 returned to Turkey after nine long years in November. Mercedes' British driver Lewis Hamilton secured the 2020 F1 title with a first-place finish at Intercity Istanbul Park.

Also, another race will be held on April 25, though the venue is yet to be announced.
