The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued a forceful condemnation of Israeli airstrikes on Syria’s Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in Idlib province, accusing Tel Aviv of systematically undermining Damascus’s territorial integrity through repeated attacks on critical military infrastructure. The ministry "strongly" condemned the latest assault on the strategic installation, according to an official statement released in Ankara.
Attacks target Syrian military capabilities
Officials said Israel continues to carry out attacks targeting Syria’s infrastructure and capabilities while undermining the country’s territorial integrity and unity. The strikes on the Abu al-Duhur facility represent the latest in a series of operations aimed at degrading Syria’s defensive capabilities and destabilizing the war-torn country, the ministry noted.
Israel has intensified its air campaign against military targets across Syria in recent months, conducting hundreds of strikes since the fall of the Assad regime in late 2024. The attacks have focused on air defense batteries, weapons storage facilities, and strategic installations in Idlib, Damascus, and Homs provinces.
Ankara demands 'resolute stance'
Turkish diplomats urged the international community to adopt immediate measures to halt Israel’s expanding military operations, warning that Tel Aviv’s aggression is assuming increasingly dangerous dimensions. The ministry urged the international community to adopt a "more resolute stance to put an end to Israel’s aggression against Syria, which is taking on new dimensions with each passing day, and to ensure accountability for these actions, which disregard international law." Türkiye maintains thousands of troops in northern Syria and has positioned itself as a guarantor of the country’s territorial integrity following the political transition in Damascus.
