Erdoğan congratulates new UK PM Burnham, vows deeper ties

The conversation marked the first direct contact between the Turkish leader and the newly appointed British premier since Burnham took office.

Erdoğan offered his congratulations to Burnham on his new position and expressed confidence that the two nations would advance their ties to a higher level in the coming period, the directorate stated. The leaders also reviewed current global challenges and affirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination on international affairs.

Defense cooperation

The Turkish president highlighted significant progress achieved in cooperation between the two countries across all sectors, with particular emphasis on the defense industry, noting that the Strategic Partnership Framework Document and the Security and Defense Partnership Document provide a solid foundation for future collaboration. These agreements have structured the security aspect of the bilateral relationship in recent years.

Erdoğan and Burnham agreed to continue joint efforts to boost bilateral trade volume and meet established investment targets, building on existing economic frameworks.
