Ankara has strongly rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's accusations that Syria is permitting Turkish troop deployment near Aleppo. Türkiye’s Communications Directorate described the claims as baseless attempts to justify unlawful Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory, urging Netanyahu to abandon aggressive policies and respect international law for lasting regional peace.

Türkiye has formally dismissed the recent allegations from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office regarding Syrian airspace and military deployments, characterizing them as deliberate fabrications designed to cover up Israel’s continued violations of Syrian sovereignty. In an official statement, Ankara’s Communications Directorate asserted that the so-called claims about Syrian authorities allowing Turkish forces to operate near an airbase close to Aleppo are entirely unfounded. The rebuttal follows an earlier pronouncement from Netanyahu’s office which suggested that Damascus was "on the verge of breaching" an informal security understanding by allegedly hosting Turkish military personnel at the Abu al-Duhur Military Airport.

Israeli airstrikes draw Ankara’s condemnation

The diplomatic exchange comes on the heels of fresh Israeli military action in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province. On Tuesday, Israeli warplanes conducted eight separate airstrikes targeting the runway infrastructure of the Abu al-Duhur Military Airport, inflicting significant material damage. Türkiye views these strikes as unlawful encroachments that undermine Syria’s territorial integrity and exacerbate an already volatile regional security environment. Ankara has repeatedly stressed that unilateral military operations by external powers only deepen fragmentation and obstruct genuine efforts toward political reconciliation in war-torn Syria.

Netanyahu accused of exploiting tensions for domestic gain

Beyond rejecting the specific allegations, Türkiye pointed to broader political motives behind Netanyahu’s latest rhetoric. The statement from Ankara suggested that the Israeli premier is leveraging regional tensions to bolster his standing ahead of impending elections in Israel, employing what Türkiye described as "expansionist and destabilizing policies." The Communications Directorate called on Netanyahu to abandon such coercive tactics and instead adhere to the principles of international law, which alone can provide a foundation for sustainable coexistence among regional actors. Ankara noted that its position aligns with the majority of the international community, which favors diplomatic resolution over military posturing.

Türkiye reaffirms commitment to Syrian stability

In a clear affirmation of its strategic posture, Ankara reiterated its dedication to collaborating with the Syrian government on legitimate grounds to restore peace, security, and economic prosperity across the country. The statement emphasized that Türkiye will continue to cooperate officially with Damascus and will not tolerate any attempts to destabilize Syria further. This commitment reflects Türkiye's broader vision for a stable Middle East, where dialogue and mutual respect replace unilateral intervention. As the situation evolves, Ankara remains firm in its resolve to safeguard Syrian unity while countering narratives it views as orchestrated distractions from Israel’s own actions in the region.
