Smoke rises after airstrikes in Tehran, Iran on March 13, 2026. Successive explosions were heard across the Iranian capital Tehran on Friday, amid continuing regional tensions following US and Israeli strikes on Iran

The Israeli military announced Friday it carried out coordinated airstrikes over the past 24 hours targeting Iranian government infrastructure in Tehran, Shiraz and Ahvaz. The strikes hit missile production facilities, air defense bases and Revolutionary Guard command centers as part of an ongoing campaign to degrade Iran's military capabilities.

The Israeli Air Force conducted multiple waves of simultaneous strikes across three Iranian cities over the past 24 hours, targeting what the military described as infrastructure belonging to the "Iranian terrorist regime." In a statement on the social media platform X, the Israeli army said the coordinated operation struck sites in the capital Tehran as well as the cities of Shiraz and Ahvaz under the direction of military intelligence.

Shiraz underground facility targeted

In Shiraz, located in south-central Iran, Israeli forces claimed to have struck an underground facility used for the production and storage of ballistic missiles intended for launch toward Israel. The strike represents a significant blow to Iran's missile program, which has been a key component of Tehran's retaliatory capabilities against Israeli and US targets throughout the region.

Tehran air defense systems hit

Israeli aircraft targeted multiple sites in Tehran, including a central base of Iran's air defense system. Additional facilities involved in weapons production, air defense systems and ballistic missile components were also struck, according to the military statement. The attacks on air defense infrastructure appear designed to degrade Iran's ability to protect its airspace and key assets from future strikes.

Revolutionary Guard command centers struck in Ahvaz

In Ahvaz, southwestern Iran, Israeli strikes targeted the headquarters of several Iranian government bodies, including command centers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ground forces and a central command of internal security forces responsible for coordinating with the Guards. The Israeli military stated that activity by Iranian personnel was detected at the targeted headquarters, with dozens of members operating from those locations to advance and coordinate what Israel described as "terror operations" against Israel and other regional countries.

Deepening campaign against Iranian government

The Israeli military characterized the completed strikes as part of a phase aimed at "deepening damage to the core systems and foundations of Iran's government." The operation represents a significant escalation in the two-week-old conflict, which began with US-Israeli joint strikes on Iran on Feb. 28 that have killed more than 1,300 people, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, with no end to the hostilities in sight.
