The UK Maritime Trade Operations reported on Saturday that a vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile approximately 18 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman, causing a fire that was later extinguished without injuries, as tensions persist following UAE accusations that Iran targeted an Abu Dhabi National Oil Company vessel earlier in the day.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported on Saturday that a commercial vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile approximately 18 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman, causing a fire that was subsequently extinguished without injuries to the crew or environmental damage. The agency said it received the report from a verified source but declined to identify the vessel, its flag state, ownership details, or the specific type of projectile involved in the attack.

UKMTO noted that relevant authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and advised all vessels transiting the area to maintain heightened vigilance and report any suspicious activity immediately. The agency confirmed there was no reported environmental impact from the fire, though it did not disclose the vessel's current operational status.

UAE accuses Iran of separate attack

The incident occurred as regional tensions escalated following an earlier accusation by the United Arab Emirates that Iran targeted an Abu Dhabi National Oil Company vessel with a missile while it transited the Strait of Hormuz. ADNOC stated that no personnel were injured during the alleged attack and that the situation had been brought under control — though Tehran has not publicly commented on the claim.

Maritime security advisory

UKMTO said the relevant authorities were investigating the projectile strike off Oman and advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity. The agency did not indicate whether the incident was connected to the earlier missile strike reported by the UAE in the Strait of Hormuz.
