The people of the Syrian town of Tel Abyad, which is under the occupation of the U.S.-backed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), are counting the days to obtain their freedom from the terror group, waiting for Turkish troops to save them from oppression.
Locals of the northern Syrian town have formed a 2,000-strong army against terrorists of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), with more than 6,000 youngsters applying to join, to support the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), which is currently carrying out preparations for an operation in the region, says a commander of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) Ammar Dede.
PKK terrorists flee Tel Abyad
Ammar Dede, in an exclusive interview with Yeni Şafak daily stated that the reconnaissance activities of Turkish jets and drones have spread fear among the terrorists.
“Since February, PKK terrorists have been evacuating main headquarters, ammunition depots, intelligence centers and camps in Tel Abyad and moving to Ras al-Ayn and Ayn Eissa,” he said.
He noted that the killing of 23 PKK terrorists by the Turkish military in the region have increased their hopes and also led the terror to flee in panic.
“The Turkish military recently neutralized 23 PKK terrorists including one the PKK’s top terrorists, Ömer Alluş, in Tel Abyad. Not a single PKK terrorist has been seen on the streets for the past one-and-a-half months. They deployed paid terrorists on the border and to the entries and exits of the town. Sometimes the PKK cadre doesn’t come for days. When they do come they use the armored vehicles provided by U.S. and leave in short amount of time.”
Turkey is currently conducting Operation Olive Branch is the northwestern Syrian region of Afrin to eliminate PKK/YPG and Daesh terrorists from the area. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that after the Turkey-led military campaign in the northwestern Syrian region in Afrin was complete, it would be followed by one in Manbij and Tel Abyad.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
