Turkey's top businessman, Mustafa Koç, dies of heart attack

Chairman of Turkey's biggest conglomerate​, Koç Holding, died in a hospital in Istanbul after suffering heart attack​

Mustafa Koç, head of Turkey's biggest company, Koç Holding, passed away on Thursday in Istanbul after a heart attack in spite of 45 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hospital authority confirmed.



Koç, 55, was taken to Beykoz Public Hospital early in the morning, 15 minutes after an ambulance was called, for cardiovascular problems where he was treated of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).



Beykoz hospital authority said the first medical intervention was carried out by Koç's personal trainer and bodyguard.



After 45 minutes treatment in the Public Hosptial, Koç was transferred to American Hospital by helicopter.



In a press statement,American Hospital authorities confirmed the death of Turkey's top businessman.



Koç is the eldest son of billionaire Mustafa Rahmi Koç. Since 2003, he has been chairman of the board of the family's Koc Holding, which operates in the automotive sector, durable goods, food, retailing, energy, financial services, tourism, construction and IT industries.



According to Fortune Global, Koç Holding – which has 113 companies, 90,000 employees, and 14,000 dealers – is the 341st largest company in the world, and the only Turkish company on the Fortune 500 list.
