President Erdogan to visit Turkmenistan for International Peace Forum
AA
Turkish President and Leader of the Justice and Development (AK) Party Recep Tayyip Erdogan greets the participants as he attends the “Strong Turkiye for Humanity” program at the Justice and Development (AK) Party Congress Center in Ankara, Turkiye on December 9, 2025.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will travel to Turkmenistan on December 11-12 to attend the International Peace and Security Forum. The visit will include a keynote address and bilateral meetings with other heads of state, marking Turkmenistan's 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality and the UN's 2025 International Year of Peace and Trust.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to embark on a diplomatic visit to Turkmenistan later this week to participate in a major international forum on peace and security. According to an announcement by Communications Director Burhanettin Duran on Wednesday, the president will attend the International Peace and Security Forum in Ashgabat on December 11-12.

Significance of the Forum's Theme

The forum carries substantial symbolic weight, commemorating two key milestones: the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's internationally recognized status of permanent neutrality and the United Nations General Assembly's designation of 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust." President Erdogan is scheduled to deliver an address to the international gathering, highlighting Türkiye's role in global peace initiatives.

Agenda: Bilateral Diplomacy on the Sidelines

Beyond the forum's plenary sessions, the visit will serve as an opportunity for high-level bilateral diplomacy. President Erdogan is expected to hold separate meetings with participating heads of state and government, including his Turkmen counterpart and other leaders attending the event. These sideline talks are crucial for advancing Türkiye's regional and bilateral agendas within Central Asia.

Strengthening Türkiye-Turkmenistan Relations

This visit underscores Türkiye's continued commitment to deepening ties with Turkic nations, a cornerstone of its foreign policy known as the "Turkic World Vision." Engagement on a platform promoting neutrality and trust aligns with Türkiye's efforts to position itself as a stabilizing mediator and a reliable partner in energy, trade, and security cooperation within the region, reinforcing its strategic influence.
