Almost every Friday one Spaniard converts to Islam in Granada

In the Andalusia region of southern Spain, one Spanish citizen has been converting to Islam almost every Friday for the last few years, by bringing the word Shahadah.

Anadolu video showed a Spanish young man Jose Miguel converted to Islam by reciting the Kalima Shahada in the Grand Mosque of Granada, after Friday prayer.

“Almost every Friday a Spanish convert to Islam in our mosque. There is a serious increase in the number of Spaniards who converted to Islam, especially after the pandemic. This is a situation that makes us happy and proud,” said Spanish Islamic Society Association and Granada Great Mosque Foundation President Umar del Pozo.

"About 36,000 Muslims live in Granada's cities and districts. About 3,700 of them are Spaniards who converted to Islam and their third-generation children," Del Pozo added.

Secretary of the Islamic Commission of Spain Mohamed Ajana told Anadolu that the Muslim population living in Spain has increased 10 times in the last 30 years, exceeding 2.5 million, according to official records, and according to unofficial figures, about 3 million Muslims live in Spain.

In Spain, where Muslims from Morocco, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Senegal and Algeria are the majority, the Muslim population mostly lives in industrialized regions such as Catalonia, Valencia, Andalusia and Madrid.
