Widespread power outages were reported across Tehran and neighboring Alborz province Tuesday following US-Israeli airstrikes that damaged electricity infrastructure, Iranian state media reported. Repair teams worked to stabilize the grid as residents described Monday's bombardment as one of the most intense since the war began Feb. 28.

Widespread power outages affected several areas in Iran on Tuesday following US-Israeli airstrikes that damaged the electricity network in Tehran and neighboring Alborz province, according to state-run news agency IRNA. The missile strikes on Monday caused significant damage to power infrastructure in parts of the capital and surrounding areas, disrupting service for residents.

Emergency response

IRNA quoted an official from Iran's power authority stating that immediately after the attack, operational teams from the electricity department were dispatched to the impacted sites. The teams initiated technical and emergency procedures to "assess, secure, and rebuild the damaged parts of the network." Within hours, the compromised sections of the grid were stabilized and brought back online, though some areas remained without power.

Residents affected

A resident in Karaj, who did not give her name, told Anadolu that she had to move to her relative's house in Gilan, northern Tehran, after the power outage. Monday's bombardment heavily targeted Tehran along with other major cities including Isfahan and Tabriz, resulting in extensive damage. According to residents, it was one of the most intense spells of bombings since the war broke out on Feb. 28, with densely populated southern neighborhoods such as Shahr-e Rey and Karaj among the hardest hit.

Rising death toll

The death toll from the US-Israeli war against Iran, now in its 11th day, has surpassed 1,200, with more than 10,000 injured, according to Iranian authorities. The campaign has killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and dozens of senior military commanders, while Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US assets. The conflict continues to expand, with infrastructure increasingly becoming a target of the escalating hostilities.
