Griner arrested on March 5 on suspicion of trying to illegally import hashish oil into Russia
A court in Moscow on Wednesday extended the detention of US Olympic champion Brittney Griner on charges of drug smuggling.
"The court granted the request of the investigation and extended the period of detention of the US citizen Griner until May 19," the Khimkinsky court said in a statement.
Griner was arrested on March 5 on suspicion of trying to illegally import hashish oil into Russia through Sheremetyevo Airport.
With the US national basketball team, Griner won the 2014 World Championships in Turkiye, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the 2018 World Championships in Spain, and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Currently, she plays for a Russian basketball team from Yekaterinburg.
