Nepal flood toll hits 623 as over 1,100 remain missing

Nepal Police confirmed on Saturday that the death toll from devastating floods and landslides has climbed to 623, as search teams recovered bodies carried downstream by surging rivers originating in the Himalayas, according to Anadolu Agency.

Impact in hardest-hit districts

Police officials stated that officers have recovered 616 bodies in Nepal, including 233 in Chitwan and 158 in Nawalparasi East — the districts worst affected by the disaster. Dozens of additional victims were found in Gorkha, Dhading and Nuwakot following the overflow of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, while some bodies were discovered as far downstream as the Indian border.

Missing persons and regional toll

The catastrophe has also affected neighboring China, where seven people were killed and 554 remain missing, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency. On the Nepali side, at least 638 people are unaccounted for, including 511 foreign nationals, police data showed.

Rescue and recovery operations

Nepali authorities reported that 2,301 people have been rescued or treated for injuries, with the majority of survivors located in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts. Police noted that 27 officers remain out of contact, while 4,811 personnel are currently deployed across the affected regions to manage ongoing recovery efforts.
