Pentagon awards Scale AI $500M contract to expand military AI

The Pentagon has awarded a major artificial intelligence contract worth $500 million to Scale AI , significantly expanding the company’s role in US military data analysis and operational decision-making as Washington accelerates the integration of AI into defense systems.
According to Bloomberg, the agreement marks a sharp increase from the company’s previous $100 million Pentagon contract signed in 2025, underscoring growing demand for advanced AI capabilities within the US defense sector.
US military deepens AI integration
The contract was signed through the Pentagon’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office and is considered one of the department’s largest AI-related deals to date.
Meta Platforms, which acquired a 49% stake in Scale AI last year, has indirectly strengthened its position in the expanding military AI ecosystem through the partnership.
Dan Tadross, head of Scale AI’s public sector division, said the Defense Department had been “pushing the limits” of the earlier agreement, describing the new deal as evidence of the Pentagon’s determination to rapidly adopt artificial intelligence technologies.
Role in defense strategy and operations
Scale AI is already involved in the Defense Innovation Unit’s Thunderforge initiative, a program focused on embedding AI into military planning and operational strategy. The company is also participating in President Donald Trump’s Golden Dome homeland defense project.

The expanded contract aligns with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s broader push to remove bureaucratic barriers and accelerate AI deployment across defense infrastructure.
Tech sector partnerships grow
The Pentagon has increasingly partnered with major technology firms as it modernizes classified military networks and data systems. Earlier this month, new agreements were also finalized with NVIDIA, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and Reflection AI to expand the use of AI across defense operations. The growing investment reflects intensifying global competition over artificial intelligence capabilities, particularly in military and national security applications.
