Trump says US ‘may stop by Cuba’ after Iran war ends

President Donald Trump announced that the United States “may stop by Cuba” after concluding military operations against Iran, calling the island a “failing nation.” Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel warned that any US aggression would be met with resistance, even if it means dying in defense of the country.
President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday that the United States “may stop by Cuba” after finishing its war on Iran, signaling that the island nation remains a key target for his administration. “Cuba is a failing nation, and we're going to do this, and we may stop by Cuba after we're finished with this,” Trump said, referring to US military engagements against Tehran.
Trump cites Cuban Americans, Diaz-Canel warns of resistance
Trump claimed that Cuban Americans, many of whom he said voted for him, were “treated very badly” and that family members had been killed, beaten, or mugged in Cuba. In response, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated in an NBC News interview aired Sunday that there is “no justification” for a US attack on his country, warning that Cubans are prepared to defend their homeland “even if we need to die.”
Economic crisis and tensions escalate
Diaz-Canel condemned US sanctions as “genocidal and cruel,” blaming them for worsening Cuba’s fuel shortages, blackouts, and limited access to food and medicine. Trump’s remarks mark a shift from his campaign rhetoric, in which he promised not to start new wars. The US has already tightened economic pressure on Havana, while Cuba’s deputy foreign minister said discussions on easing tensions remain at a “very preliminary” stage.
