Türkiye, Kuwait FMs discuss regional tensions amid Gulf attacks

Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Kuwaiti counterpart Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad AlSabah discussed regional security developments during a telephone conversation on Monday, Turkish diplomatic sources said. The call took place as Kuwait reported destroying Iranian drones that targeted government facilities on its territory over the weekend.

Kuwait intercepts 'hostile drones'

The conversation came after Kuwait announced its armed forces had detected and destroyed "hostile drones" entering its airspace on Saturday. Defense Ministry spokesman Saud Al-Atwan stated the "Iranian aggression" targeted a government facility on Bubiyan Island and civilian vehicles, causing material damage but no injuries, according to the state news agency.

Gulf tensions surge

Regional tensions have escalated since February, when the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran, prompting retaliatory missile and drone strikes against Gulf states hosting American military assets. The conflict has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and drawn in regional powers, with Kuwait emerging as the latest target in the expanding confrontation.

Diplomatic deadlock persists

Pakistani government sources told Anadolu on Monday that "no date or venue" has been finalized for the resumption of direct US-Iran talks aimed at ending the months-long war. The statement followed conflicting signals from US President Donald Trump, who claimed negotiations would begin Monday after he delayed military strikes, and Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, who denied any engagement with Washington.
