Türkiye sweep Hungary to stay perfect at European Championship

Türkiye’s women’s national volleyball team maintained its unbeaten start to the European Championship with a straight-sets victory over Hungary at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall on Monday. The defending champions secured the match 26-24, 25-21 and 25-14, following earlier wins against Latvia and Slovenia.

Vargas leads Türkiye’s attack

Melissa Vargas was the standout scorer for Türkiye with 24 points, while Zehra Güneş finished with eight and Hande Baladın added seven. Hungary’s leading scorer was Anett Nemeth, who registered 15 points in the defeat.

Tight opening set sets the tone

Hungary made the stronger start and managed to stay ahead for much of the first set. Türkiye, however, recovered at the crucial stage and edged the opener 26-24. The hosts then kept their advantage under control in the second set, eventually winning 25-21 to move within one set of victory.

Türkiye closes out match in style

The third set saw the defending European champions establish a clearer advantage. Türkiye pulled away as Hungary struggled to respond, sealing the set 25-14 and completing a 3-0 sweep. The result gives Türkiye a perfect three victories from three Pool A matches in Istanbul.

Türkiye will return to the court on Wednesday, when the reigning champions face Germany in their fourth Pool A match. The official CEV schedule lists the Türkiye-Germany encounter for Aug. 26 at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall in Istanbul.
