Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Borjana Kristo, chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Tuesday in Dubrovnik, Croatia, diplomatic sources said. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 11th Three Seas Initiative Summit, where Fidan is representing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Three Seas Initiative is a presidential-level platform launched in 2015, bringing together 12 EU member states located between the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black seas.
Focus of the initiative
The initiative aims to strengthen regional connectivity and economic integration through cooperation in transport corridors, energy security, and digital infrastructure. Its goal is to narrow development gaps across Central and Eastern Europe and reinforce the region’s strategic resilience within the EU framework. Türkiye, while not an EU member, has been an active participant in the initiative, leveraging its position as a key energy and transport hub.
Bilateral dimension
Fidan’s meeting with Kristo underscores Türkiye’s strong ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina, rooted in shared cultural and historical connections as well as mutual economic interests. Ankara has been a consistent supporter of Bosnia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and has invested in infrastructure projects there. The meeting likely also touched on regional security issues, including the situation in the Western Balkans and the economic fallout from the Iran war and Hormuz closure.
