Iranian aviation authorities suspended all commercial flights at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport and regional hubs in Kermanshah and Mashhad on Monday following Israeli military strikes across the Islamic Republic, as air defense systems were activated in the western city to intercept detected hostile targets.

Iranian authorities suspended all commercial flights at three major airports on Monday including Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport and facilities in Kermanshah and Mashhad following Israeli military strikes targeting multiple locations across the Islamic Republic. Official media reported the suspension would remain in effect until further notice with no immediate indication when operations might resume.

Air defense activation

Air defense batteries were activated in Kermanshah after radar systems detected what state media described as "hostile targets" entering western airspace according to the semi-official Mehr News Agency. Iranian military officials have not confirmed whether any targets were intercepted or destroyed during the overnight alert.

Regional escalation

Tensions spiked on Sunday when Israeli warplanes struck Beirut despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement prompting Iran to launch ballistic missiles at military installations across northern Israel. Israel responded with several waves of heavy airstrikes against strategic sites within the Islamic Republic.

The confrontation marks the latest chapter in a conflict that began in late February when Washington and Tel Aviv initiated coordinated strikes against Iranian targets triggering retaliation against Israel and US assets hosted by regional allies. A temporary ceasefire brokered on April 8 collapsed within weeks as negotiations stalled over implementation disputes leaving both sides locked in sustained hostilities.
