Iranian president denies resignation reports amid US conflict

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday denied opposition media reports suggesting he had submitted his resignation to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, declaring he would continue leading the country amid ongoing military tensions with the United States.

Speaking in a televised address carried by IRNA, Pezeshkian rejected claims of discord within the leadership. "If I were going to resign, I would announce it publicly. I will not resign, and I will continue the struggle," he said, emphasizing his commitment to remaining in office.

Relations with military leadership

The president also dismissed allegations of disagreements with the Supreme Leader and armed forces, insisting that civilian and military leadership remained united. "Everyone knows that if any disagreement arises, the armed forces would stand with Khamenei," he said, adding that "we are working in full harmony."

Background of US-Iran conflict

Iran has been locked in conflict with Washington since February, when the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Tehran that triggered retaliatory strikes on Gulf states hosting American assets. The two sides agreed to a ceasefire in April and signed a Pakistan-mediated memorandum in June, though the deal collapsed last month as the countries exchanged attacks for nearly two weeks before President Donald Trump halted the bombardment.
