The first and larger engagement occurred on the outskirts of Harnai district, where security forces engaged militants in what was described as an intense exchange of fire, resulting in 30 fatalities. A separate, simultaneous operation in Panjgur district led to the deaths of 11 more militants. In both instances, security personnel recovered significant quantities of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the scenes, underscoring the armed capacity of the targeted groups operating in the region.

Linking militants to criminal activities

The military statement provided further context, alleging that the militants eliminated in Panjgur were connected to a bank robbery that occurred in the district on December 15, 2025. Officials stated that a portion of the looted money from that heist was recovered from the killed individuals. The ISPR asserted that these militants had a history of involvement in various terrorist activities, framing the operations as a direct response to both terrorism and serious criminal acts that destabilize the province.

Context of rising regional insecurity

Pakistan has been grappling with a sharp resurgence of militant violence in recent years, with Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the primary flashpoints.
