Poland has risen to become the seventh most popular destination for British migrants, with the number of UK nationals living there soaring from 41,000 a decade ago to 185,000 in 2025. The shift reflects Poland's growing economic appeal and a partial reversal of historic migration flows between the two countries.

Poland has emerged as one of the fastest-growing destinations for British expatriates in Europe, climbing to become the seventh most popular migration choice for UK nationals. According to UN data, the number of Britons living in Poland surged from 41,000 a decade ago to 185,000 in 2025, signaling a significant shift in migration patterns.

Economic Appeal and Shifting Perceptions

British media outlets have highlighted Poland's strong economic performance, rising incomes, and expanding opportunities for skilled professionals. This coverage marks an evolution in how Poland is perceived—from a source of labor to a dynamic European economy attracting talent. Polish business leaders, such as InPost founder Rafał Brzoska, have taken note. Speaking in London, Brzoska urged Poland to embrace "smart migration" and actively attract talented individuals who can contribute to building value and strengthening the country.

Reversal of Historic Migration Flows

This influx of Britons coincides with a slowdown and partial reversal of the long-standing flow of Polish migrants to the UK. While over one million Poles once lived in Britain, an estimated 200,000 returned to Poland between 2017 and 2022. The trend underscores Poland's increased economic stability and quality of life, making it an attractive destination for both returning nationals and new foreign residents. This demographic shift highlights the changing economic landscape of Central Europe and its growing integration into the broader European labor market, a dynamic observed with interest by other nations, including Türkiye, which also experiences complex migration trends tied to economic development.
