Syrian Airlines to launch Vienna, Copenhagen flights in September

Syria's General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport announced on Tuesday that Syrian Airlines will launch direct service to Vienna and Copenhagen from Damascus on Sept. 21, marking the carrier's latest effort to rebuild European connections after years of disruption.

Dual-track expansion

Omar al-Hosari, who heads the aviation authority, told SANA that the new routes expand the flag carrier's international network. He said the authority is pursuing two parallel objectives: strengthening Syrian Airlines' global presence while attracting Arab and foreign airlines to resume operations to Syrian airports, according to the state news agency.

Hosari indicated that additional international destinations would be announced in the coming period alongside new foreign carrier entries. These efforts aim to restore Damascus International Airport's status as a regional hub after years of limited connectivity.

Continental restoration

The announcement follows the restoration of Germany-Syria direct flights earlier this month after 14 years. German carrier Sundair operated the inaugural Berlin-Damascus flight on Aug. 11, reopening a corridor between the capitals. Syrian Airlines' upcoming routes represent a further step in normalizing the country's civil aviation sector.
