Trump warns Iran will 'pay the price' after taking 'too long' on deal

US President Donald Trump warned Wednesday that Iran took too long to negotiate a deal to end hostilities between Washington and Tehran, declaring that the Islamic Republic will have to pay the price following overnight exchanges between US and Iranian forces in the region.
US President Donald Trump warned on Wednesday that Iran took “too long to negotiate a deal” to end hostilities between Washington and Tehran, declaring that the Islamic Republic will have to “pay the price” amid fresh overnight military exchanges between the two countries’ forces.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump dismissed Iran’s military capabilities as decimated. “Iran’s Military is a complete and total mess. Much of it, like their Navy and Air Force, doesn’t even exist anymore - They have been completely defeated. Iran is all talk and no action,” he said. The president added: “The Bully of the Middle East is DEAD!!! They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!”
US and Iran trade strikes
The remarks came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American fighter jets struck Iranian air defense systems and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes were conducted in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter, according to the Pentagon. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said early Wednesday that it launched retaliatory attacks on 21 American military targets at US air and naval bases across the region.
Tensions have fluctuated sharply in recent days as Israel and Iran traded military strikes before pulling back, raising fears of a wider regional conflict. The exchanges mark a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran, which has intensified since Trump returned to office in January.
