The United States on Saturday announced more than $3.6 million in humanitarian assistance for flood-devastated Nepal, where a glacier collapse has killed at least 675 people and left nearly 3,000 missing including around 100 American citizens.

Washington's Relief Pledge

The United States announced more than $3.6 million in humanitarian aid on Saturday for Nepal following catastrophic flooding along the Tibet border, including emergency food assistance for up to 10,000 affected households. The State Department emphasized that American diplomatic missions in Nepal and China are coordinating closely to support disaster relief efforts and assist US citizens caught in the disaster. "There is no higher priority for us than the safety of American citizens. Our embassies in Nepal and China are working closely to assist Americans and support disaster relief efforts," the State Department said in a statement posted on X.

Glacier Collapse Triggers Devastation

Part of a glacier in the Himalayas collapsed on Wednesday, unleashing floodwaters that devastated areas along the Nepal-Tibet border and killed at least 675 people. The disaster prompted large-scale search and rescue operations for nearly 3,000 people reported missing, including foreign tourists. Approximately 100 American nationals are among the missing, according to officials.

Foreign Nationals Missing

Of those reported missing in Nepal, 589 are foreign nationals, the disaster management agency reported, while the Nepal Tourism Board confirmed that 261 foreign nationals have been rescued. Search teams continue operations across the flood-hit region as authorities work to locate survivors and recover victims from the debris left by the glacier collapse.
