US Embassy in Jordan warns Americans to shelter amid missile threat

The US Embassy in Jordan issued an urgent security alert early Thursday warning American citizens to seek immediate shelter after reports indicated missiles, drones and rockets had entered the kingdom's airspace, as regional tensions escalate following US strikes on Iran and Tehran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Embassy in Jordan issued an urgent security alert early Thursday advising American citizens to seek immediate shelter after reports indicated missiles, drones or rockets had entered Jordanian airspace, amid rapidly escalating regional tensions following US military action against Iran. In the alert, the embassy said: "Reports indicate missiles, drones, or rockets are in Jordanian airspace. Seek overhead cover and shelter in place immediately. Remain indoors and pay attention to local announcements and alerts," and urged Americans to monitor local media for updates.
Regional Tensions Surge
The warning came as tensions mount across the Middle East following US strikes on southern Iran, which were conducted after Iranian forces downed a US Army Apache helicopter earlier this week. Tehran subsequently announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels, a move that threatens global energy shipments through the strategic waterway.
Jordan on High Alert
Jordan, a key US ally in the region, has previously intercepted aerial threats during periods of heightened military activity between Israel and Iran. The kingdom's air force remains on high alert as neighboring conflicts continue to pose risks to civilian aviation and ground security.
