Koral: Turkey's domestically built electronic warfare radar

Turkey's Koral Radar-Electronic Warfare System, one of the latest EW system in the world, shows the country's domestic contribution to increases its arms power

Turkish defense industry continues to enforce the Turkish Armed Forces with new technologies.

ASELSAN, one of the Turkish leading weapons manufacturer, successfully delivered a new reportable electronic warfare (EW) radar system called Koral.

Turkey's first locally designed Koral land-based mobile EW system is able to search for, intercept, analyze, classify, and find the direction of multiple conventional and complex types of radar signals.

It is also capable of jamming, deceiving and paralyzing hostile radars.

Koral, developed under the Land Based Stand-off Jammer System project, can either be set to automatically respond to hostile signals or it can present suggested options to an operator.

It consists of two main elements: a modular-designed Radar Electronic Support (ED) unit and a Multi-radar Electronic Attack System (ET).

A complete Koral EW system, including four Koral Electronic Support Systems (ED) and one Electronic Attack System (ET), is mounted on two 8x8 military trucks.

The vehicles can be up to 500 m away from each other, communicating via fiber-optic cables.

The Koral EW System's wide frequency and spatial coverage, coupled with high parameter measurement accuracy, allow it to handle both traditional and emerging threats with an automatic identification of threats and a fast system response.

Koral System has assumed one of the most important duties for the country's defense with an operating range of over 100 km.

ASELSAN, along with nearly 50 local subconductors, launched the project in 2009 and tested operations in 2013.

Following more than 1,000 tests the newest Koral Radar-Electronic Warfare System was deployed on Turkey's border with Syria earlier this year.
