Uber to acquire Getir's food delivery business in Türkiye for $335M

Uber has agreed to purchase the Turkish delivery startup Getir's food delivery operations in Türkiye for $335 million. The deal, pending approvals, includes an additional $100 million investment for a 15% stake in Getir's remaining grocery and retail delivery business, consolidating Uber's local footprint.
Uber has struck a major deal to acquire the food delivery business of Turkish rapid delivery pioneer Getir within Türkiye for $335 million. The global mobility giant also announced a concurrent $100 million investment to secure a 15% stake in Getir’s continuing operations in grocery, retail, and water delivery, marking a significant consolidation in the country's competitive delivery market.
Strategic Consolidation Under the Uber Banner
Pending regulatory approvals, the transaction will see Getir's food delivery service merged with Trendyol Go, another Turkish delivery platform in which Uber acquired a majority stake last year. A joint statement indicated the combined services would operate under the Uber umbrella, aiming to create a more robust ecosystem by integrating Getir's quick-commerce expertise with Trendyol Go's extensive restaurant network.
User Experience and Future Integration
Following the acquisition, Getir's app will remain active, allowing its users to also access Trendyol Go's restaurant offerings. Conversely, Trendyol Go users will gain direct access to Getir's services through their own app. Uber stated it plans to contribute to market growth by leveraging the distinct strengths of both platforms post-approval.
Long-Term Plans and Market Context
The agreement includes a pathway for Uber to acquire the remainder of Getir’s delivery portfolio in Türkiye in the coming years, subject to certain performance conditions. This move underscores Türkiye's vibrant tech startup scene and the strategic value global players like Uber place on its domestic market, leading to increased merger and acquisition activity in the sector.
