Bulgaria-Türkiye border crossing renovation to boost capacity

Governor Yunus Sezer of Türkiye's northwestern Edirne province and Bulgarian customs official Nikolay Shushkov have inspected renovation work at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing, aiming to expand capacity and reduce congestion for commercial trucks and seasonal travelers.

Sezer and Shushkov convened at the frontier point to discuss construction timelines and infrastructure upgrades. Delegations from the Edirne governor's office and the Bulgarian National Customs Agency examined ongoing work at the checkpoint as part of efforts to modernize border facilities, according to the governor's office.

Easing traffic bottlenecks

The renovation project targets chronic congestion that has plagued the crossing during high-volume periods. Expanded capacity will accommodate increased truck traffic and Turkish Bulgarian residents returning home during the migrant season, reducing lengthy waiting times at the frontier.

The Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint serves as a critical land gateway between Bulgaria and Türkiye, handling substantial commercial freight and passenger movement. Both countries have prioritized infrastructure upgrades at key border points to facilitate smoother cross-border trade and travel.
