Attackers Çiğdem Yakşi and Berna Yılmaz were members of Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C) terrorist organization
The two female terrorists who conducted an attack on a police station in Istanbul's Bayrampaşa district were identified as Çiğdem Yakşi and Berna Yılmaz, members of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C) hours after the incident.
Both were 27 years old. Yılmaz was Eskişehir-born while Yakşi was from Malatya, according to police sources.
The terrorists were identified shortly after they were neutralized by police in an operation following the attack.
The terrorists were trapped and killed in an apartment where they were hiding, refusing to surrender despite more than an hour of police efforts.
No casualties were reported in Thursday's attack; however, two policemen wounded in the operation following the incident were reported to be in good condition.
DHKP-C, whose members attack Istanbul police, is considered a 'terrorist organization' by Turkey and the United States.
