Turkic States to Launch Joint Satellite in 2026 as Cooperation Deepens

The Organization of Turkic States has committed to launching a collaborative satellite project by 2026, marking a significant advancement in technological cooperation among member nations. The decision emerged from the 12th Heads of State Council summit held in Azerbaijan, where leaders endorsed comprehensive initiatives spanning space technology, artificial intelligence, trade facilitation, and sustainable energy development.

Member states will combine resources to accelerate the "12U OTS-SAT Cube-Satellite" project, targeting a 2026 launch date. The organization plans to organize Space Days events during World Space Week and the International Astronautical Congress to elevate the international profile of Turkic nations and foster partnerships in space sciences. Additional scientific cooperation will include joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, and support for entrepreneurial ecosystems across the Turkic region.

The summit produced agreements to strengthen artificial intelligence cooperation to boost productivity, sustainability, and regional competitiveness. Member states will incorporate AI, green technologies, and smart production systems into their industrial strategies through coordinated innovation programs. The organization also committed to facilitating trade, customs procedures, and transportation cooperation by modernizing logistics systems and enhancing coordination between border agencies to improve regional economic integration.

Cultural tourism programs will be developed to promote visitor exchanges through joint awareness campaigns, with member states pledging mutual support for tourism initiatives and bilateral cooperation. In the energy sector, the organization will explore renewable energy sources and their efficient transportation throughout the Turkic region while advancing green technologies and climate-resilient infrastructure in line with the Turkic Green Vision strategy. The group also established a civil protection mechanism for coordinated responses to natural disasters.
