Turkish defense firm Aselsan opens Egypt office amid deepening ties

Türkiye's leading defense contractor, Aselsan, has established a representative office in Egypt to directly serve the Egyptian Armed Forces, marking a significant step in growing bilateral defense industry cooperation.
Turkish defense electronics giant Aselsan has officially opened a representative office in Egypt, strengthening its direct engagement with the Egyptian Armed Forces and regional clients. General Manager Ahmet Akyol announced the move on the sidelines of the Egypt Defense Expo (EDEX) 2025 in Cairo, stating, "Türkiye’s largest defense industry firm now has a physical presence in Egypt," which he described as opening a "new chapter" for serving Egyptian partners.
Context at EDEX 2025 and Regional Partnerships
The inauguration coincides with a major Turkish presence at EDEX 2025, where approximately 80 Turkish defense firms are exhibiting. Akyol highlighted the expo as a key platform for developing joint regional projects. He revealed that Aselsan has already signed a preliminary agreement with three companies to collaborate with local Egyptian partners, with the long-term objective of evolving these relationships into joint production and cooperative activities.
Showcasing Advanced Defense Systems
At the Cairo expo, Aselsan is displaying a broad portfolio, including air defense systems, guidance kits, electronic warfare suites, tank modernization solutions, and maritime sensors. Akyol noted particular interest from Middle Eastern and African nations in the company's offerings. He singled out the "Steel Dome," Türkiye's multi-layered integrated air defense system, as a major attraction, along with precision guidance kits like the KGK-84, which can deliver a one-ton bomb at a range of up to 100 kilometers.
Brotherly Relations and Growing Defense Industry Synergy
Akyol framed the new office within the context of rapidly improving bilateral ties, asserting that "Türkiye-Egypt relations reached the highest level recently, and cooperation in the defense industry is growing." The physical establishment in Egypt signifies a strategic commitment to deepen this partnership, moving beyond mere exports towards potential co-development and sustained technological collaboration, reflecting a broader normalization and economic integration between the two regional powers.
