Türkiye foiled Kurdish uprising planned by US, Israel, Iran confirms

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has acknowledged that Türkiye played a decisive role in thwarting a US-Israeli-backed plan to spark a Kurdish insurgency in Iran, according to an interview with Iranian media.

Ankara’s firm stance with Washington

Araghchi said that in the early days of the tensions, following reports that US President Donald Trump was planning to fragment Iran, he contacted Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, officials from the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. “Türkiye spoke with the Americans and took a very firm stance on this issue. A series of initiatives prevented this conspiracy,” Araghchi stated, without providing further details. He also warned that Tehran would respond to any threat emanating from Iraqi Kurdish territory.

Regional diplomacy in focus

Araghchi’s remarks come amid renewed tensions between Iran and the United States following the collapse of a ceasefire. They also follow previous claims by Trump that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had considered entering the conflict on Iran’s side but had been persuaded otherwise. Türkiye has consistently advocated for regional stability and has used its diplomatic channels with both Washington and Tehran to prevent escalation. Ankara’s role in defusing the plot underscores its position as a key mediator and stabilizing actor in the Middle East.
